A Nigerian caretaker has been jailed for 20 years after it emerged that he smuggled two teenage girls into Britain and forced them to work as prostitutes after they were put under a Juju curse.

Anthony Harrison, of Stratford, east London, worked for Newham council under the name Charles Pepple at the same time working as a people trafficker, trapping young children into sex slavery.

The girls involved, aged 14 and 16, from Edo in Nigeria, are believed to be the first victims of Juju to give evidence in a European court. The two girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went through a number of sick ceremonies which included one of them being stripped naked, cut with razors all over her body and locked in a coffin for hours. Another ceremony  involved one of the girls drinking blood and another involved eating a chicken’s heart. The Juju rituals were to make sure the victims kept quiet about what had been done to them.

Harrsion was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to traffic people into the UK for sexual exploitation, two of conspiracy to traffic out of the UK for sexual exploitation, two counts of false imprisonment and four of conspiracy to facilitate breaches of immigration law. The Nigerian national also admitted to five counts of fraud.

It seems African witchcraft is becoming ever more present in the UK, what are your thoughts on Juju, is it real or should it be ignored?
