Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has spoken out about how his daughter died, blaming it on an ‘excessive’ detox regime, as opposed to drugs and alcohol.

Mitch believes that a seizure, brought on by a prescribed drug for anti anxiety and to help combat her alcoholism, called Librium was to blame. This was all that was found to be in Amy’s body when she passed away. No illegal substances were present.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Mitch and Amy’s mother Janis, tearfully shared how their daughter had always done everything ‘to excess’. “She drank to excess and did detox to excess” he said.

Mitch went on to say that Amy had been on the way to recovery during her detox,

The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter

Apparently Cooper later donated $50,000 to the Winehouse’s foundation, which was recently set up in order to raise money to help people with drug and alcohol addictions.

It’s comforting to know that Amy Winehouse was in fact trying to overcome her problems with drink and drugs, but does knowing this make her passing even more saddening?
