Rio Ferdinand loves to remind us all that he is a a big supporter of the UK urban scene, so it comes as no surprise that grime is his music of choice to get him in the right frame of mind before a football match.

The Man United player told The Sun:

It has to be hard stuff. UK Grime like Kano, Wiley and Chipmunk. Or Old School house, garage and jungle and heavy hip-hop, I need to be as pumped up as possible before I take to the field and those usually do the trick.

Who said being 33 is too old to listen to Chipmunk hey?

As well as his love for grime music, Rio explained that he prefers to listen to Reggae and classic R&B, such as R Kelly, if his team wins and hip-hop if they lose. And his favourite album of the year? Take Care by Drake.

At the moment the Drake album is on heavy rotation on the way to training. For me, it’s the best hip-hop album of the last year.

Earning himself even more street cred, the defender also expressed his wishes for a second series of Channel 4’s gritty drama Top Boy:

Top Boy is my new favourite. A few of my friends were in it and it’s very intense, I hope they make another series, I thought it was brilliant.

We could definitely get on with him.
