Scottish singer-songwrtiter Emeli Sande has won the Brits Critics Choice award beating rapper Maverick Sabre and singer Michael Kiwanuka. The 24-year-old, who was handed the prize by a panel of industry experts, joins the list of talented female winners who have gone on to gain major success including Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Adele.
Emeli, who’s debut album, Our Version of Events is set to be released in February said,
To win a Brit Award so early in my career is beyond a dream come true… I am overwhelmed to be the recipient of such a prestigious award. Thank you so much.
With a number two hit single Heaven and a number 1 with Professor Green, It looks like things can only get better. Let’s just hope this isn’t going to be another Speech Debelle story.
