The cousin of Tottenham footballer Jermain Defoe was stabbed to death in his St Lucian home.

78-year-old Allan Edgar was stabbed in the neck by robbers after an evening at a neighbouring bar. According to the Daily Star he was discovered by friends “in a pool of blood” the next morning.

Allan had earlier reported stolen cash from his home to police before he went to the bar and insiders believe the thieves came back for more.

Defoe is still coming to terms with the death of his half-brother, who was killed in a violent street attack in east London two-and-a-half years ago. Jermain told the Press Association

I am shocked and saddened by the tragic news of my cousin’s murder in the close-knit town which my family is from in St Lucia. I want to again highlight the desperate need for us to pull together – the world over – to tackle knife crime and teach everyone how sacred a life is.
