For many artists a fresh new single calls for a fresh new look, so when last year’s X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson dropped her début single Nothing’s Real Without Love, the promotional shots that pictured the mother of two with noticeably lighter skin, received more attention than the song.
The Liverpudlian singer, who admitted that she was bullied about her appearance whilst at school, looks like she has been digitally lightened in contrast to her natural complexion.
This kind of photo editing is particularly controversial following the debate over whether Beyonce’s skin was lightened in a 2008 L’Oréal advert.
A spokesperson has clarified that her paler skin tone is due to the ‘lighting’ of the shoot, the same explanation used by L’Oréal three years ago.
These guys are definitely going to have to come up with some new excuses.
