Liverpool player Luis Suarez has been found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra. Suarez has been hit with an eight match ban which could be extended if he appeals against the suspension and has also been fined £40,000.

The ban was issued on Tuesday when a three-man Independent Regulatory Commission appointed by the FA found Suarez guilty of misconduct after Manchester United defender Patrice Evra accused him of racially abuse during a match on 15 October.

Liverpool released a statement on Tuesday backing Suarez and said they would provide “whatever support he now needs to clear his name”.

According to Sky Sports the FA has now revealed that the ban can be increased, reduced or cancelled altogether by an appeal board.
