The woman accused of verbally attacking ethnic minority passengers on a London tram, burst into tears today as she viewed footage of the incident during court proceedings.

Emma West, 34, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court charged with racially aggravated public order offences and sobbed as the video, which has now been seen more than 11 million times online, was played to a courtroom.

The mother was remanded in custody to appear by videolink for a committal hearing on 3 January and as she was led to the cells her supporters screamed out “Treason” and cried “We love you, Emma. Be strong,”.

A bail application was made by her solicitor David Ewings, but was denied by the magistrate Ian McNeal to protect her safety.
