20-year-old Kiaran Stapleton, who was charged with the murder of Lancaster student Anuj Bidve on Boxing day in Salford, told Manchester City Magistrates his first name was ‘Psycho’ after he was asked to identify himself.
Anuj was shot in the head after being approached by Stapleton at around 1.30am on 26 December. He died a short time later in hospital. The 23-year-old was with a group of fellow Indian students visiting Manchester for Christmas when he was murdered.
Stapleton also refused to stand up in the dock, saying ‘I prefer to be seated’ and police, who are treating the unprovoked murder of the Indian student as a hate crime, are still offering a £50,000 reward leading to a conviction, as they say the investigation is ‘very much ongoing’.
