An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of  Cheryl Tariah, whose body was found in a flat, above a shop in east London. Police were called to the shop in Barkingside after receiving reports from neighbours claiming they heard disturbances coming from the flat on Tuesday.

Paramedics found the 17-year-old Art student from Tottenham alive but failed to save her life. The post-mortem concluded that Cheryl, who was described as having a ‘strong and bold personality’ by her college principle, had been strangled.

Ako Khalid, from High Street, Barkingside, is due to appear at Redbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
