It’s a debate which is splitting opinion in the music world at the moment, and Estelle has weighed in, defending friend and collaborator Chris Brown who is still receiving intense backlash for assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
Estelle told VibeVixen:
I feel like Chris is an incredible singer, musician, dancer, entertainer, and brain box as far as business and that’s why I respect him and that’s where we meet at because I have nothing else to go on.
Estelle’s view is that while Chris Brown’s actions were wrong, the public shouldn’t look to Chris Brown as a role model, and his fans should be parented in the right way. She explained:
I get it, I understand, and I get the effects for young women…. I can’t speak on it because I wasn’t there. Parents, raise your kids. Young men and women, raise your kids. Don’t let us raise your children. That’s my take on it. I respect him, I love him, he does amazing music, and has evolved. He’s worked his ass off, so why are people still crucifying him?
We may agree with Estelle, but we wouldn’t announce it to the whole world, I mean did she not hear about the Blue Ivy ban Beyonce and Jay-Z may give to Rihanna?
