Wales striker Ched Evans and Port Vale defender Clayton McDonald have appeared in court both denying the rape of a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room in Rhyl, north Wales back in May last year.
Caernarfon Crown Court heard that McDonald got into the woman’s arranged taxi, took her to the Premier Inn hotel and made a phone call to someone saying he had ‘got a girl’. Evans arrived a while later asking for keys to the same room.
Prosecutor John Philpotts told Caernarfon Crown Court that Evans and McDonald both admitted that they had sex with the teenager at the hotel but the woman in question was too drunk to consent. Mr Philpotts said:
The prosecution say that she did not truly consent to that activity. She was in no fit state to consent… And we say that neither men reasonably believed she was consenting.
The trial is expected to continue into next week.
