Mario Balotelli and Rio Ferdinand have come together to show support for local talent by appearing in a music video for Mancunian rapper R.I.O.

The 26-year-old’s track Can’t Stop We doesn’t only feature cameos from the two footballers, but also stars old friend Misha B, Labrinth and Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent.

Rio Ferdinand met the rapper of the same name (real name Rio Nelson) backstage at Manchester Academy when he was supporting Rick Ross.

R.I.O told The Diary:

He was walking to the VIP area and passed my dressing room. Someone joked ‘the real Rio’s in here!’ He laughed and came over and had a chat and we got some footage of the two of us talking.

Mario’s cameo came about after the pair met through R.I.O’s uncle and the clip sees the Italian striker showing off his footy skills at a barber shop.

We were showing off to each other, seeing who could do the best. But I had to be careful when he went in for a tackle! Hanging out with him, he is such a humble, down to Earth, really nice guy.

Getting friendly: R.I.O and Mario

The Narrow Roads star went on to say how pleased he is with the video and how he hopes it will give him the boost he needs to become a household name in the UK music scene:

I’ve been doing my thing for a bit in Manchester and people have been really supportive. But I hope this helps more people open their eyes to me…

Well if getting the most attention seeking footballer in the world to star in your video doesn’t help people ‘open their eyes’ then we don’t know what will!
