A 50-year-old man has been jailed for the rape of a women in her Clapton home 20 years ago.
The Old Bailey sentenced Anthony Jordan to 13 and a half years in jail for the attack against his victim in 1990.
Jordan of Sussex was initially arrested and sentenced to 18 months in jail for burgling the victim’s house a month after he had raped her, but charges for the rape were dropped because DNA forensic techniques at the time could only produce a one-in-160 match.
The court heard how the the victim, who was 49 at the time, woke up in the early hours in her east London flat to find someone in her bedroom. Jordan then put a pillow over her face, pinned her arms down and raped her.
DC Jenny Thrower of Sapphire said:
We are pleased to report that justice has finally caught up with Anthony Jordan. He clearly thought he had got away with his crime, but thanks to advanced DNA techniques he was wrong.
In 2011 a DNA analysis of the victim’s dressing gown revealed a one-in-a-billion match, promoting Jordan’s arrest. He will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
