Chelsea fans’ tears of joy have now turned to tears of sorrow. Chelsea confirmed this afternoon that Didier Drogba will leave the club at the end of June.
Rumours that Drogba may not renew his contract with the London club have been circling since the Blues brought the Cup home on Sunday. Only this morning a spokesperson for the 34-year-old denied the reports.
However, this afternoon Drogba released the following statement,
I wanted to put an end to all the speculation and confirm that I am leaving Chelsea. It has been a very difficult decision for me to make and I am very proud of what we have achieved but the time is right for a new challenge for me.
Fans have paid tribute to the legendary player on Twitter with the hashtag #thanksDrogba.

The Ivory Coast-born player, who has been with the club for eight years, sealed the club’s biggest ever victory on Saturday to win the Champions League title with a breathtaking last gasp soaring header in the 88th miniute to equalise and take the cup final into extra time.
He cemented his status as man of the match by scoring the winning penalty in the shoot-out guaranteeing he will always be remembered fondly at Stamford Bridge.
It is rumoured Drogba may join Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua. Sad times! :(
