Having your card declined at the till is never a good look for anyone, especially if you’re a Premiership footballer like Rio Ferdinand. Now being on an estimated £120,000 a week salary would make you pretty certain that you would more than likely have a few pennies in your account to pay for your petrol costs, right?
Unfortunately for the Hodgson reject his card was declined at a petrol station in Harrogate, north Yorkshire. Cringe.
Witness Laura Thomas tweeted:
Of course Rio couldn’t have us thinking he was broke, the centre back explained that his card had been cancelled by his bank company Coutts (a branch where you need to put down a deposit of a cool £1million to open an account) because they suspected fraud behaviour on his account.
Rio tweeted about his embarrassing moment saying:
Well ok if you say so Rio. If times are a bit hard just know that you can write us an IOU, we won’t judge you.
