Literally…. worth less. What would you say if in your local supermarket you saw two dolls were being sold and the black one was £1 cheaper than the white one. Well that’s exactly what some parents saw when they walked into a Tesco supermarket in Dudley, West Midlands.

Controversial or what?

The Emmi Baby Dolls were apparently on the same shelf yet the white one cost £5.96 while the black one cost £4.97.

One mother told the Sun:

I think it’s disgusting I have to pay one pound more because it’s a white baby.

At first I reported the price difference because I was worried about what people would think about Tesco.

It’s not about the money, but the fact is the white doll is a quid more dear than the black one and that can sow all kinds of ideas in people’s heads

A spokesman from the retail giant said the black dolls went on sale after the white ones. He added:

At present the product is being sold at an introductory price. That is all there is to it.

What do you think? Is it racist? If it was the other way around would it be just as controversial?
