Nicola Adams has made history by becoming the first ever woman to win an Olympic boxing gold medal.
29-year-old Adams beat China’s Cancan Ren 16-7, knocking her out in the second round in the flyweight final which was held at the ExCel arena in Newham, east London.
The gold medalist form Leeds nicknamed ‘Babyface’ couldn’t contain her excitement when the results were announced and confirmed with press that she would be celebrating her win by taking herself and her family on a much needed trip to Nandos. She said:
It’s a dream come true. I’ve just wanted this all my life. To think I’ve finally done it, I’m finally here. All this support has really made my day… I’m just so happy and overwhelmed with joy right now… I’ll be spending time with the family. I think we’ll probably go to Nandos – a chicken in pitta medium with chips and perinaise.
