Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events has overtaken Adele’s multi-Grammy grossing album 21 in the best selling records of 2012 list.
The Scottish star’s debut album has sold 659,800 copies since its release back in February and the Official Charts Company have confirmed that it is now the top selling album of 2012 in the UK.
Martin Talbot, Official Charts Company’s managing director, said
At a time when it is as hard as ever for new artists to break through, it is fantastic that Emeli Sande now has the official biggest selling album of 2012 so far. It is also apt that Emeli (who won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award in February) should take over from the inaugural BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner, Adele.
Although the stats don’t give details about the monthly breakdown of sales it might be a safe guess that Emeli’s near ‘residency’ of both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics played a part.
However, Emeli is yet to beat the overall sales figures of Adele’s 21, which at the moment stands at 4.4 million copies sold in the UK.
