The Role Model issue of i-D magazine comes in sixteen stunning covers, and the 4 ‘blonde bombshells’ photographed by Emma Summerton and styled by i-D consultant fashion director, Edward Enninful include not-so-blonde Jourdan Dunn in an almost comical wig.
Jourdan is among one of the models featuring in the separate covers, but have her stunning looks been compromised by having to fit into a mould?
Speaking in The Role Model Issue, Edward explains:
An inspirational man or woman is anyone who has achieved the right balance between their personal and professional lives. My role models are the two Graces – Grace Enninful and Grace Coddington. Both taught me about excellence, commitment, dedication and striving for only the best.
Exploring this idea in a shoot inspired by Dolly Parton, Edward and Emma Summerton collaborate on a story starring Jourdan Dunn, Candice Huffine, Iseline Steiro and Aymeline Valade.
The ‘blonde bombshell’ theme of this cover shoot just seems so out of touch and just doesn’t work in Jourdan’s favour, it really seems like she has been ushered in and squeezed into the pre-set mould set by the photographer and idea of the blonde supermodel.
I think if Jourdan is considered influential enough to be on the cover as a role model (which I definitely think she should be) she deserves to have a theme that suits her.
Am I the only one?
