The nominations for the 17th annual MOBO awards were announced in London’s Soho last night, ahead of the main ceremony at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 3 November.

Plan B and newly-married Emeli Sande have been nominated for the most awards this year, with five nominations each. Neither attended the nominations event in Central London.

Joining Emeli Sande in the Best Female category are rival talent show judges, Tulisa and Jessie J, as well as Rita Ora, Rebecca Ferguson and Jessie Ware.

Other notable nominees include Labrinth, for Best Male, Best R&B/Soul Act, Best Album and Best Song for Earthquake featuring Tinie Tempah, and Ed Sheeran who has the opportunity to collect three gongs on the night.

Conor Maynard, the UK’s answer to Justin Bieber (apparently), is also in the running for Best Newcomer. He is in a tough category, competing against other extremely talented young, new artists Rita Ora and Misha B. Conor will also be performing at the main Mobo Awards ceremony.

Jay-Z and Beyonce are pitted against one another for Best International Act. Hopefully, the competitiveness will not cause tension in their household, especially not in front of the baby.

How much are we willing to bet neither will be there in Liverpool on the night? Or any of the other nominees for Best International Act? And why does there need to be TEN nominations in this category?
