Last Wednesday was the film premiere of Amina, a production which brought together Nollywood and British actors.
The film, written by Christian Ashaiku and co-produced by Wil Johnson (Anuvahood), followed the life of Amina (played by Omotola Jalade Ekeinde) and her life struggles and eventual mental illness.
Many celebs from Africa and the UK came out to Leicester Square’s Empire Cinema’s red carpet to show their support for the rare collaboration of the two film industries.
Among those who attended the premiere were Aml Ameen (who was much shorter than we thought!), Kano, Christine Ohuruogu and Jimmy Akingbola, as well as the Amina cast crew.
There was a talk with Christian Ashaiku – the writer, director and producer of Amina – before the screening where he talked about his inspiration behind the film and how he got the cast and crew together. That was then followed by an introduction of some of the main actors in the film and a short summary.
As well as the screening, there was an after party at Jewel bar in Piccadilly Circus which everyone who was at the screening attended.
With music from Wil Johnson, two rooms to party in until 1:30am and a suitable mixture of Afrobeats, RnB and funky house the event surely marked and celebrated the coming together of Nollywood and the British film industry.
