A 50-year-old mother of two, believed to be possessed by the devil (and who isn’t African), was severely beaten by her own husband, son and son-in-law at her family home in Bethnal Green, east London on 7 January last year.
The woman, Asma Hussain, has taken them all to court. Literally. No, I mean, she actually pushed her husband’s wheelchair to the courthouse. Yes, the same husband who severely battered her, along with her own son from her own womb as well as her son-in-law (well, the son-in-law isn’t so surprising).
This is domestic violence on a next level. The three men are now in court for brutally attacking her, but she refuses to give evidence against them.
Ahmed Hussain, 60, assisted by his son Mohammed Kayes Hussain, 28, and son-in-law Muhammed Aziz, 21, conducted an exorcist style beating of his wife to rid her of the devil because they believed she had been possessed.
Asma Hussain was reportedly tied to a bed and beaten to a pulp with a walking stick whilst an Imam showered her with ‘holy water’ and prayers. You read that right.
Her family members, apparently misinterpreted her stress as her being possessed by the devil. Naturally. Well, what else could it possibly have been?
She couldn’t possibly have been stressed by the fact that all the males in her family are complete wastemen, could she? ALL THE MEN (you’ll read evidence of this further down).
Her son, Mohammad, claims he genuinely let the violent attack continue as he thought it was for her best. Of course you did.
In mitigation, his barrister told the court:
He did not intend his mother any harm and was under the misguided apprehension that the Imam’s actions would improve his mothers health
Despite Asma’s tortured screams of pain, the men continued to deliver merciless blows to the victim – so much so – that a neighbour came to the house to make sure everything was okay. And of course, hearing your 50-year-old female neighbour’s screams from sustained brutal violence piercing the tranquil hollow of your genteel street is quite normal.
I mean, duh!
And satisfied that everything was indeed ‘okay’ the neighbour presumably returned to their own home to continue weeding their garden and planting new rhododendrons while casually pushing cotton wool buds deep into their ears.
The victim’s own brother also visited the house during the incident, but the alarm was still not raised. Remember, ALL THE MALES. So it wasn’t until Mrs Hussain’s daughter Salma Hussain caught word of the situation and called the paramedics that salvation arrived, probably saving her life.
Mrs Hussain has refused to give any evidence against her family and even PUSHED her wheelchair-ridden husband to court to face charges against HER. And to add insult to her own injuries she has sent a letter to the judge handling the trial, pleading for her husband and son not to be sent to jail. He’s a good man. He’s a good son. Clearly.
The judge is still to hear from the victim’s son-in-law, Muhammed Aziz before passing a sentence.
The trial continues.
