The tartan trend isn’t confined to a Scotsman’s kilt or a schoolgirl’s skirt anymore, oh no.

When it comes to Autumn and Winter tartan is usually perfect knitwear pattern especially for scarves, but catwalks such as Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs heavily featured the tartan pattern on skirts, trousers and jackets as well as many other items of clothing.

However, this trend doesn’t focus on the strong and sometimes harsh traditional tartan colours of black and red; with soft blues, lilacs and beige browns seen up and down the catwalk, the new take on tartan proves to be much more wearable.

Tartan looks best layered with heavy knits or trench coats, ready for the colder weather. It also looks good when worn with leather or heavy black items such as military style boots, to give the look a grungy feel.
