A 16-year-old girl (who cannot be named) was punched in the back of the head by an unknown man last Tuesday in broad daylight, knocking her unconscious as she hit the pavement head first.
At just after 12.30pm the smartly dressed teenager, who was walking down Plaistow High Street in east London, was hit by her attacker outside the Black Lion Pub. The man then ran off after she hit the floor.
She was quickly taken to Newham General Hospital with bruising and cuts to her head and face, later being released that same day after a series of tests.
The suspect is described by police as a ‘muscularly built’ black man with a shaven head and around 6ft tall.
Police say he followed the girl from her home (around 400m away from where the attack took place).
He is said to have been wearing a baseball jacket and jeans and is aged between 25 and 30.
Witnesses or anyone who can identify the attacker should call the Newham Violent Crime Unit on 020 8217 5890 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference S/194/12.
