John Kassongs Kafunda, 23, from Ilford, east London, and Reece Donovan, 25, from Romford, Essex, who were accused of robbing 21-year-old student Ashraf Rossli as he walked dazed over the Queen’s Road flyover, have been spared prison.
Previously in March the pair received a joined sentence time of 9 years and 3 months for robbing a wounded young man at Wood Green Crown Court by Judge James Patrick.
Ashraf Rossli, 21, from Malaysia was cycling through Barking when a member of a large gang of rioters punch him in the face breaking his jaw and stealing his bike. It became one of the most famous images from the London Riots.
Lord Judge, Mr Justice Fulford and Mr Justice Bean openly told the court that the pair’s appeal to their convictions had been granted, sparing them from their prison sentence.
And that’s that. Second trial of the day to end with a shock verdict.
