It’s like BMW are tired of having gaps in their model range numbers, so now they’re playing a game called fill-in-the-gaps.
The New 4 Series isn’t an entirely new model, but basically the new shape of the 3 Series coupé and convertible – just renamed. They’re deciding to keep the 3 Series solely as a saloon. It doesn’t really make much sense, but when a company as big as BMW makes a decision like that who are we to question?
It’s not only the gap between the 3 and 5 Series that will be filled; in 2014 there will be a 2 Series. Just like the 4 Series it will be the 1 Series coupe and convertible renamed. Still following?
Also look out for the X2 and X4. The X2 is most likely to be a cross between the X1 and X3 while the X4 would be a cross between the X3 and X5. The X4 is being made just so they can compete with Land Rover’s Range Rover Evoque, showing that Beemer are actually quite good at filling in all those gaps.
Looking at the BMW 4 Series is a thing of joy, it’s like God is blessing your eyes. The sexy lights, curves and grille, in fact just about everything on the car is beautiful. It has this luxurious look and feel to it; just looking at it makes you feel like Prince William, so imagine if you owned the damn thing!
BMW hasn’t given a word on the engine line-up yet, but AutoExpress expect the range to kick off with a 181bhp 420i model, followed by a 242bhp 430i and a 302bhp 435i to complete the petrol line-up. They’re also expecting the diesel options to be the 181bhp 420d, the 254bhp 430d and a new 309bhp 435d.
For all the lazy drivers out there, an eight-speed auto gearbox is an option, while the real drivers get a six-speed manual gearbox to fiddle with.
The interior looks really solid and prestige, just exactly like the 3 Series. The seats and dashboard is covered in real leather and Natural Chestnut wood trim on the doors. It’s likely yours won’t look like that automatically, you’ll have to get all the upgrades to make yours look like this.
The 4 Series is set to be released at the end of 2013 and the drop-top to follow shortly after.
As soon as I know more, I’ll share it with you here.
