Gunman Dean Smith was sentenced for a minimum of 31 years in prison at the Old Bailey today for beating, chasing and killing 26-year-old Aaron McKoy from Stoke Newington in the early hours of New Years Day last year.
It was brought to the attention of the court last week that rapper Smith aka Bungle, was a part of the London Fields Gang and victim Aaron was targeted purely because he was a member of the rival gang Holly Street Boys.
A fight had broken out between the two gangs at the Clerkenwell House Wine Bar in the early hours of 1st January.
Aaron and a friend he was celebrating his birthday with left the bar, but was then beaten up outside.
Aaron then tried to flee the scene but was chased 100m and beaten by the mob. He was then shot three times by Smith in Portpool Lane, Clerkenwell, central London.
The judge is said to have called Aaron’s murder a ‘cruel execution’.
