In a move that will directly compete with Apple’s Facetime, BlackBerry (who just ditched the name RIM) has announced that BBM will have video calling in the new BlackBerry 10 software.

Apart from being able to see who you’re talking to, BBM will also allow you to share the apps on your screen. You can use either the front or rear camera during the video call, so the person on the other end can see you or whatever you’re looking at.

BBM has always been a free service for BlackBerry users and continues to be extremely popular (especially amongst teens). There are plenty of other ‘chat apps’ available, but BBM is the main reason many people resisted the temptation of Android and iOS.

Is video calling enough to keep BBM users happy? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
