Remember our story on the changes to Instagram’s privacy policy? Well, the number of users has been falling since they announced they may use our pictures for commercial purposes from 19 January.

When the announcement was made, there was a massive user backlash which prompted Instagram (now owned by Facebook) to backtrack and revise their policy.

That hasn’t stopped people leaving the photo sharing service in droves and Instagram is believed to have lost around 50 percent of its daily users since December 2012. That translates to roughly 8 million people.

Facebook denies that the number of users has fallen so dramatically and says the figures are “inaccurate”.

Whether the figures are accurate or not, this should be a lesson to companies who believe they can do whatever they want with our data. Power to the people!
