Doreen Lawrence, mother of murdered teen Stephen Lawrence has revealed that as recent as a few days ago, she has found herself victim to threats from “racist thugs”.
News broke as it was revealed that Scotland Yard was investigating her claims that a letter was sent to the address of the charity set up in Stephen’s name, The Stephen Lawrence Trust.
Talking to BBC HARDtalk about the threats which were directed at her son Stuart Lawrence, Doreen said that she believed that the threats came as a result of Stuart complaining about being constantly stopped and searched by police due to his race.
There are times we get letters sent to the trust about me and more recently one has come through about him because he made a stand…I try not to be out too late when I’m travelling home. The fear is always there.
Also, in relation to her work to show the Metropolitan police force as being “institutionally racist” she said:
Not everybody out there thinks what I’ve done is great.
Scotland Yard police said that they were currently investigating the claims of threat made.
