Azealia Banks has come under fire in recent days for an online Twitter battle she had with popular US blogger, Perez Hilton.
The argument between the two, had started after a previous argument between Azealia and up-coming female rapper, Angel Haze.
The online war had then reached the attention of thousands of users of the site and had prompted Perez Hilton to step in a stir the pot.
Once Perez had stepped in, Azealia had fire to throw back at the blogger and eventually ended up in Azealia using homophobic slang.
Hilton was quoted saying:
Some of your music is cute, but your attention-seeking ways are pathetic and hurtful. You drag while others choose to uplift!
While Azealia, who had last year revealed she was openly bisexual slammed the blogger by responding:
Whatever bitch, you tried to sign me to ur little bum ass label in ’11 with them bullsshit ass artists…
She later said:
Omg u should just kill yourself… Like for real… lol what a messy faggot you are.
The news had then generated a lot of anger amongst many members of the gay community, who were upset with her choice of words during the argument and they proceeded to rant on LGBT blog and Pink News UK.
Azealia, who has a massive gay following in the US and UK, is supposed to release her debut album here later this year with an unconfirmed release date, has gone on to defend her comments:
A faggot is not a homosexual male. A faggot is any male who acts like a female. There’s a BIG difference
Then going on to say:
As a bisexual person I knew what I meant when I used that word … When I said acts like a female I should’ve said acts like a cunt.
Rumours have circulated that Azealia would be dropped from her label, before her debut album has even touched the shelves. However, a spokesperson for her label has confirmed the release will still happen.
The question remains, will Azealia still have a big following from the LGBT UK community by the time the album drops? Or have they excused the term that she used, which is often seen as derogatory, because she’s a bisexual female?
