2010 X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu has launched her solo career with the video release of her first Single Shake The Room, taken from her debut album A Love Like This.

In the competition, judge Cheryl Cole made the controversial decision to take Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd through to the live shows over Gamu, even though the soulful singer had an arguably better singing voice than both contestants – causing a lot of controversy surrounding race issues and Gamu’s apparent Visa status.

After being granted release from her contract under the company which manages all X Factor contestants, 21-year-old Gamu made the wise decision to take time to work on her music rather than rushing to get it out – which is a mistake many X Factor contestants have made in the past.

Drawing inspiration from the 60s for her first single, it looks like Gamu may be set to follow the trend of other ex X Factor contestants who have missed out on the winning title but gone on to enjoy more success than the winners.
