Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has revealed her signing to Def Jam’s distributor in the UK, Mercury records in the lyrics to her latest single titled Work.
The hint came when she rapped the following lyrics, which also name-dropped her management team, Turn First on the track:
She then went on to tweet the following, confirming her new partnership:
Although she teased her fans with her new label situation, she confirmed she is still apart of T.I.’s Grand Hustle label, but Mercury would serve as her international distributor.
Iggy is hard at work on her debut album, The New Classic ,which she hopes will see a release date of June this year.
I’m still not sure about this chick, her flow is decent but I just don’t know where she fits in or what she can deliver differently that we can’t find in a Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks or any other female rapper out at the moment.
Mercury distributes for an elite list of artists including Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Mariah Carey so they clearly were serious when they signed the rapper.
Iggy definitely has a lot to live up to, given that she’s put out several mixtapes and her buzz has been going strong for quite some time now.
An official statement regarding her signing is to be announced in the coming days, but for now fans can remain hopeful that her delayed project seems to be getting backing from major labels and distribution partners.
