Do you guys remember the girl group Cleopatra? The girls with the big braids? No?
Then maybe the lyrics ‘Cleopatra, coming at ya’ will ring a few bells. I don’t know about you, but when I was younger, I LOVED singing that song into my hairbrush.
Cleopatra were big for a few years from 1998, with some Top Ten hits, and even a couple of TV shows, but split up after two albums.
They’ve reformed a couple of times, but nothing much has really come out of it, and it looks like they’re still trying to make it big. Well, at least one of them is.
Cleo Higgins who was the lead singer is going to be making an appearance on the new series of The Voice, as one of the people auditioning. Now 30, she’s hoping this will be her big break.
She’s attempted a solo career before, which didn’t really work out too well, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this goes for her.
Also auditioning for this season is soul singer Nate James who emerged around 2005 and has been nominated for a MOBO in the past. He also won an Urban Music Award for Best Album.
I’m not sure how I feel about ‘ex-stars’ being allowed to audition on these kind of shows, I feel once you’ve got a Wikipedia page, you’ve probably had your chance and should leave it to those who are really starting from the bottom.
Let’s see how they do though!
