As the UK celebrates Mother’s Day today, we felt it was only right that we share our top 5  albums to pull out on a day like this.

We select from some of the most iconic women in music that you may want to spin (or purchase if you haven’t already) for your mum to celebrate her well-deserved day.

Take a look at our Top 5 Mother’s Day albums.

5. Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill has only released one solo studio album in her whole career and until this very date it’s still hailed as one of the most influential debuts of all time.

The album deals with Hill’s pregnancy at the time, the turmoil surrounding the breakup of former group The Fugees, themes of love, and God.

The album has the perfect elements of RnB, hip-hop and even a little bit of reggae so there’s something on the album that will most definitely be on there for all mother’s to enjoy today.

4. Amy Winehouse – Back to Black

Another iconic singer who left too soon is Amy Winehouse, but her timeless sound will forever live on.

Back to Black was the second album from the singer, producing the hit singles Rehab and Valerie. The album is ranked at number 451 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The album is full of jazz influenced tracks and Amy’s signature jazzy vocals to ensure your mum will feel like she can enjoy some modern day classics in style!

3. Beyonce – B’day

The second studio album from Beyonce was recorded in secret by the singer and she had recorded and completed 22 songs for the project in two weeks!

The album is full of up-tempos and has a heavy use of live instruments, hip-hop beats and throwback sounds which were very rare to find in urban music at the time the album was released in 2006.

From the high-energy lead single, Deja Vu to the aggressive Ring The Alarm, the album definitely will have your mother on her feet dancing away, it might be a nice album to spin if your mum wants to have a high-energy, celebratory mother’s day!

2. Adele – 21

A worthy second place goes to new mum Adele, who will most likely be celebrating her own first Mother’s Day today, as she gave birth to her son last year.

Her now iconic album 21 has sold an unbelievable 27 million copies worldwide and won a total of seven Grammys. And its still selling! Those are Michael Jackson numbers!

The album is full of perfect soulful ballads and will set the perfect mood for chilled out Sunday, such as today.

Songs you might find yourself putting on repeat may be Someone Like You, Rumour Has It, Rolling In The Deep and He Won’t Go, but I can guarantee you’ll probably listen to the whole album with no skips!

1. Whitney Houston – The Greatest Hits

The number one album on our list would have to be the greatest hits album from the late Whitney Houston who died in tragic circumstances last year.

Whitney’s legacy and timeless music lives on, from her incredible rendition of I Will Always Love You to fun up-tempo numbers such as How Will I Know, The Greatest Hits album is packed full of 36 of the singer’s biggest hits.

I’m sure many of our readers’ mothers would of grown up listening to the tracks from this album and so, this is the ultimate soundtrack for such a special day.
