Following the news of Margaret Thatcher’s death yesterday, Brixton decided not to mourn and to celebrate her passing instead.
Margaret’s power is believed to be the part of cause of the riots that took place in Brixton in 1981, two years after she came into power, as it was thought to be a result of the high unemployment levels and racial tension which came out of her policies.
Because of this, it seems that the people of Brixton were less than sorry to hear of the death of the ex-Conservative leader, with the Ritzy Picturehouse cinema changing their board which lists film screenings to announce that Thatcher was dead.
There was also what could be described as a street party yesterday evening around the area:
Do we think the people of Brixton were right to celebrate her death so soon? Or are they justified considering the issues the area suffered?
