Emeli Sande tops charts

Emeli Sande has made British music history for having a debut album spend the most consecutive weeks in the UK top 10.

The record was set by The Beatles 50 years ago for their debut album, Please Please Me, which spent 62 weeks in the top 10, and Emeli has surpassed that as Our Version of Events has been in a top 10 position for 63 weeks.

63 weeks!

Emeli’s debut album was released in February 2012, was the biggest selling album of last year and is the biggest selling album of 2013 so far.

It seems like there’s no stopping her.

The 26-year-old songstress spoke to the Official Charts Company about her musical success saying:

I’m completely lost for words and this is something I could only have dreamed of. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and their legacy lives on and continues to inspire all of us that make music.

I’m so happy that so many people have connected with the stories and the songs on the record, this really is our version of events now.

I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has bought, played or shared my music in the last year, without your support this would never have been possible.

Well done!
