A number of famous faces came out yesterday afternoon, to join the Lawrence family in remembering 18-year-old Stephen Lawrence, who was killed 20 years ago in a racially motivated stabbing.
Beverley Knight, Misha B and Jermain Defoe were among some of the celebrities to went to St Martin in the Fields Church to take part in the memorial ceremony.
Emeli Sande and Beverley Knight performed at the service; and a number of politicians and Britain’s most senior police officer turned out attended to mark the 20th anniversary since Stephen died.
Speaking at the service, Doreen Lawrence said:
I’ve always tried to look forward and to focus on the positive since Stephen’s murder, and looked to see how I can make the lives of others better.
The pain of losing someone never goes away, you just learn to live with it at cost.
Over the years as a family we have mourned in our separate ways, not daring to speak out loud about our feelings. My pain is raw, and that of my children.
