This bank holiday weekend, I was invited down to the Afro Hair and Beauty Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington, so I went along to see what it was all about as I didn’t know what exactly to expect. Approaching the venue you could see all young ladies (and gentlemen) ready to make their way in too.

Once I collected my pass I headed into the main hall to see all the different booths they had set up.

There were so many; from jewellery to clothes as well as the obvious hair and makeup products. There were also several live product demonstrations including hair creams and oils, curlers, straighteners and make up.

Kojo at Afro Hair and Beauty

Throughout the day, goodie bags, samples and other freebies were given out and a few familiar faces were spotted browsing the event such as Choice FM’s Kojo, Princess Nyah and Jocelyn Jee Esien.

As I made our way around the building the Afro Hair and Beauty panel had a debate going on about wigs, weaves and natural hair which was soon followed by a fashion show and then the Fantasy Hair Show.

The Fantasy Hair Show was probably one of the craziest things I’ve seen… HUGE hair, BRIGHT colours and BOLD makeup, it was definitely like something from a crazy dream.

Jocelyn Jee Esien judging the Fantasy Hair Show

The panel of judges which consisted of Jocelyn Jee Esien, Irene Shelly and three top celebrity hair stylists, watched as a pair models walked down the runway showing off the hair designs from the hairstylist they were working with.

Once all the hairstylists’ models had done their walk, the judges voted and a first, second and third place winner were chosen and given their awards.

Overall it was a good day at the Afro Hair and Beauty Show; perfect for anyone who’s been following the event, or even those who have never been but are into what it stands for.
