A range of black actors are being tipped to be the next Doctor Who, following the news of current Doctor Who Matt Smith’s departure.

In light of the recent racism scandal surrounding the BBC show, it has been rumored that a black actor would be the next to take the role – making whoever gets it the first black Doctor Who in history (as well as shutting up the people who accuse the show of racism).

Richard Ayoade (from Channel 4’s IT Room) and David Harewood (Homeland) are also being hotly tipped to fill the Doctor’s shoes.

Steven Moffat, the executive producer of the show stated:

Somewhere out there… is someone who’s about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again.

After 50 years, that’s still so exciting.

It would be a historical event to see the role of Doctor Who being taken by a black actor but… I have a feeling this will turn out to be like the James Bond saga. A whole load of speculation which turns out to be nothing.
