A number of stars from the UK music scene have been announced to play a concert at London’s O2 Arena in memory of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence later this year.
The concert marks 2013 as being the 20th year since Stephen’s death.
The current acts confirmed to perform at the concert are Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, Labrinth, Tinie Tempah, Rudimental, Rizzle Kicks, Jessie J, Plan B and Jamie Callum. More acts will be added to the line-up in the future.
Doreen Lawrence spoke about the memorial concert saying:
I would like Stephen to be remembered as a young man who had a future.
He was well loved, and had he been given the chance to survive maybe he would have been the one to bridge the gap between black and white because he didn’t distinguish between black or white.
He saw people as people.
Our aim is to build hope for the future. Justice for Stephen is about all of us, every one of us, in society having justice. I want young people to feel inspired, be confident and have hope in their own future.
The concert will take place on 29 September at the O2 Arena and tickets will go on this Friday.
