We caught up with Tony Adigun, artistic director of Got to Dance and Avant Garde Dance Company two weeks ago as he prepared to take on a new challenge by choreographing a piece of dance to opera music.

Known for their Hip-Hop roots and style, this was a fresh adventure for the Avant Garde Dance Company and Tony expressed this himself:

We are taking a risk with this.

Our usual audiences are going to be surprised but it is going to be another example of us breaking the usual ‘Hip-Hop conventions’, and in the meantime we are going to bring our aesthetic and innovative style to a totally new audience.

Well, the risk definitely paid off as Avant Garde Dance delivered a beautifully flowing piece along to the impressive Monte Verdi Opera score from Early Opera Company, resulting in a truly compelling performance.

This is just the latest achievment from a company who are always breaking boundaries and never fail to bring something new to the Hip-Hop Dance Theatre scene.
