Prada have cast a Kenyan-born British-raised black model for one of its campaigns, making the new signing the first black model used for the fashion house in 20 years.

19-year-old Malaika Firth is the first black model that Prada has cast since they used Naomi Campbell in an advert in 1994.

Following in Naomi’s footsteps… big deal!

Malaika, from Barking in Essex, will be taking part in Prada’s Fall/Winter 2013 advert. The brand is known for rarely hiring model of Asian or black descent so this signing is something of a milestone.

Malaika notes Jourdan Dunn as one of her inspirations and was said to be “completely ecstatic” when she found out she got the job.

More than ecstatic, she should be proud!
