It has just been announced that Tim Westwood will be leaving both Radio 1 and BBC 1xtra to be replaced with new DJs in a shake-up to the radio stations’ show schedules.

Tim, who began DJing on Radio One in 1994, will see his shows be replaced with slots by MistaJam, Charlie Sloth and DJ Target. Charlie Sloth replaced Tim Westwood on his drive time show in 2010 and will be taking over his simultaneous 9pm slot on Saturday nights.

New additions to the Radio One Saturday schedule will be Mistajam’s radio show at 7pm, followed by Charlie Sloth, with DJ Target afterwards at 11pm. Clara Amfo will also be joining BBC 1xtra as the new host of the weekend breakfast show.

DJ Target announced the news on his Instagram with the message:

Radio One and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper said of Tim’s departure:

I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1 – his passion for hip-hop is legendary. I wish him all the very best.

The changes to the radio stations will commence from 21 September.
