A British teenager, named as 19-year-old Tyrell Matthews-Burton, was stabbed in Malia, Greece in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Tyrell, from Leyton in east London, was celebrating his birthday on the resort, a popular holiday destination for many young Brits, when a fight broke out.

The victim was held down and stabbed in the heart by his attackers. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Tyrell died from his wounds within minutes.

The coroner who examined Tyrell’s body said:

He was stabbed once in the back and once in the chest. He was clearly pinned down and killed execution style, there were no defence wounds only a few bruises to the lower lip where he had obviously been punched.

The knife punctured his lung and heart. There was massive and abrupt bleeding on the left side of his chest and he lost almost half of his blood.

17 individuals from Britain have been arrested for their involvement in the brawl, with a 19-year-old who has been singled out for being the one who stabbed Tyrell.

Tim Westwood, who is currently DJing on various islands in Europe tweeted of the fatality of Tyrell, who was nicknamed Sterling:

The victim’s body is due to be flown back to England later this week.
