This Saturday saw the coming together of urban music and classical orchestras at the BBC’s Urban Classic Prom. With a line-up which consisted of Fazer, Lady Leshurr, Laura Mvula, Jacob Banks, Maverick Sabre and Wretch 32 the show looked set to be a good one.
Another act who were on the bill for the night were seven performers, collectively named 7 Chapters, who had been mentored by Fazer for the last 10 weeks. The seven artists, including a guitarist, singers and MCs trained with the N-Dubz rapper in a number of workshops eventually writing a song with him in preparation for their Prom performance. They performed their co-written song Chapters on the night, accompanied by Fazer on the piano and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
However, 10 weeks proved to not be enough time as the feedback on Twitter suggested that the young performers weren’t very good:
Fortunately, every cloud has a silver lining and all that, and there were some tweeters who were on hand to sing 7 Chapters’ praises:
Maybe they were nervous. Maybe they didn’t have enough rehearsal time. Maybe their next performance will prove to be more impressive… If they ever get the chance.
