Rachel Kerr

Musicalize, the live music event which allows upcoming UK artists to showcase their work, came to Indigo2 last night and was headlined by Brandy.

But before the American singer took to the stage, she was preceded by a number of talented acts in the form of Ayah Marah, Mike Hough, Dora Martin and Rachel Kerr.

Rachel Kerr was the opening act to the show, and the 2012 MOBO Best Gospel winner opened with an energetic performance with songs from her newly released EP Getting Started.

Delivering songs from her gospel, RnB and reggae-infused EP, the singer who hails from the West Midlands, got the crowd riled up and ready for the night.

Ayah Marar

Next on stage was Ayah Marar, a dance/pop singer based in the UK but with Jordanian heritage. To suit the line-up and main act, Ayah stripped back her songs with acoustic performances of her songs including her current single with Calvin Harris, Thinking About You.

She then brought on the current beatboxing world champion and this year’s MOBO Unsung Winners Insight to join her for her closing song.

Dora Martin

The next artists to take to the stage were Dora Martin, the duo formed of singers Cherry Voncelle and Jermaine Riley, who were giving the audience their first live performance as a musical duo.

Singing the national anthem, Dora Martin certainly perked the audience up as they approached the stage; with Cherry wearing a shirt and suspenders and Jermaine sporting a kilt. With a mixture of subtle choreography and finely tuned harmonies, the two definitely made a mark as the end of their first ever live performance was met with wild applause.

Mike Hough

Mike Hough then came to the stage, as the penultimate act before headliner Brandy, performing renditions of his soulful music.

Then, acknowledging that his covers on YouTube were what gained the east Londoner much of his recognition, Mike treated the audience to a cover of Alanis Morrisette’s Ironic.

Altogether, the support acts helped to set the tone for the night, ready for Brandy’s performance.
