The 24-year-old Brit who lost her leg in a taxi crash in New York, expressed her joy at the thought of getting a new leg and being able to wear heels again.
Sian Green was on holiday with her best friend when a taxi, driven by a man with road rage, ploughed into her, leaving her with injuries so serious she had to have her left leg amputated below the knee.
The 24-year-old will soon be fitted with a prosthetic leg, but the pain and memories from the terrible accident still haunt her.
Speaking about the moment when she realised her life would never be the same she said:
I screamed at the paramedic to save my leg. But he leaned over and said, “I’m sorry, sweetheart. There is nothing we can do.” I knew then that nothing in my life would ever be the same again.
She also described the first time she saw her injuries
It was a week before I was able to look at it. Every time they changed my dressing I would turn my head to make sure I didn’t see what was there. I had my leg and foot for 24 years and suddenly it was gone. It takes a lot of readjustment – emotionally and mentally.
But, strangely, when I finally examined it at length, I felt complete calmness and said to myself, “At least I still have my life.” I could easily have been killed.
Sian has decided not to be crushed by the tragedy. The aspiring model explained how she is looking forward to being fitted with her prosthetic leg in the next few months. And can’t wait to be able to wear high heels again.
Sian called Heather Mills, who also lost her leg in a traffic accident, an inspiration.
