Former Big Brother winner Brian Belo has finally been paid by TOWIE bosses, after they stole his idea for a reality show.
Belo was suing both ITV and the programme makers Lime Pictures, claiming they ripped off his idea, seeking £4 million in damages. Belo pitched a concept to Lime Pictures for a show called Totally Essex. The production company then shamelessly stole his idea and passed it off as their own.
The case was due to be heard at the High Court on Friday, but all of the parties concerned have reached an out-of-court settlement.
According to the Sun, the agreement means Brian will get a £1 million payoff in return for dropping the legal claim, a minuscule amount compared to the money Lime Pictures have made since TOWIE first aired in 2010.
But we’re so proud of Brian. He took on the big boys and won. So for that reason we’re naming him our Black History Month Hero. Because we can.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t spend all his money on contact lenses and hair gel.
